Routine Screening Mammogram Procedure

Posted on February 12th, 2012

It’s a well-known fact that women under 40 are less likely to have breast cancer than women who are older than 40. If a routine screening mammogram by radiologist has found a problematic area, a woman will be probably advised to take a diagnostic mammogram. During diagnostic mammograms, more x-rays are taken of the breast and extra pictures are focused on the suspicious area.

In fact, it’s much easier to read mammograms in older women because their breast tissue contains more fatty tissue than that of younger women. Besides, X-ray goes through fatty tissue easier than through dense tissue. That is why mammogram screening is not very often recommended in cases of women who are under 40 years.

X-ray endovascular dilation is performed under local anesthesia. Initially, the affected vessel through angiographic catheter is introduced radiopaque substance to determine the exact location of stenosis, its extent and character.

Then, in the lumen of the angiographic catheter is inserted into a therapeutic double-barreled catheter, such as Gruntsig catheter. It consists of a main tube with a hole at the tip and the surrounding plastic shell that forms near the end of balloon extension. Thus, the cylinder has two Gruntsig lumens: one internal and the second found between the main catheter and sheath.
